How to Care For Bamboos

Once planted in the ground new plants should be kept moist in their first summer and we find it is better not to over water as they are naturally fairly drought tolerant.

Bamboo plants grown in containers and pots.

Because of the restricted area for the roots to run and a more limited supply of compost, they will need to be given some feed.  A granular form of feed can be mixed in with the compost at the time of potting, Plants that are grown in pots are more likely to dry out more quickly so they need to be watered more frequently.  It is better to use a watering can and water straight to the roots giving a really good soak maybe a couple of times a week.

Stagnant compost due to overwatering is the major cause of failures; however during very hot and dry day’s plants that are growing well will require daily watering. Suggestion: At least once a year check if plants need re potting.
